Joint fish, game board call for proposals

The Board of Fisheries and Board of Game — the state entities that set bag limits, seasons and other regulations for fishermen and hunters in Alaska — will meet jointly next March to address issues common to both boards. In preparation for that meeting, the joint boards are asking for input from Alaskans.

A call for proposals was issued this week for the joint board. Specifically, the board is seeking ideas for how to make their advisory boards function better.

Fish and game advisory boards are officially recognized entities of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game which advocate for fishermen and hunters on Board of Fisheries and Board of Game proposals. The joint board will consider changing some of the rules governing advisory boards at its March 2019 meeting. Title 5, chapters 96 and 97 of the Alaska Administrative Code will be considered by the joint board. Topics up for change are how advisory committees are established, the distribution of local fish and game advisory committees and uniform rules of operation.

Proposals are due by May 1, 2018, and can be submitted electronically to ADF&G. A full list of topics up for consideration as well as proposal guidelines can be found at adfg.alaska.gov.

Juneau-Douglas’ advisory committee is chaired by Atlin Daugherty, a local hunting guide. Juneau-Douglas Regional Coordinator Lena Gilbertson can be reached at 465-6094.
