They won’t be sparing the rod on this guy!
A drug smuggler was busted in the Bronx with up to $10 million worth of fentanyl that he’d stashed inside coolers filled with fish, police said Thursday.
Johnny De Los Santos-Martinez, whom NYPD detectives had been surveilling as part of an investigation into drug trafficking, was charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance after police found nearly nine pounds of fentanyl inside his car, cops said.
Last Thursday, officers spotted two boxes in the back seat of his 2017 white Acura MDX and searched the car at Leland Avenue and Archer Street in Parkchester, according to police.
Inside the boxes, they found two Stryrofoam coolers. One contained fish wrapped around two brick-shaped packages of fentanyl. Another brick was tucked inside a vacuum-sealed package of chili, police said.
The second cooler held a fourth brick of fentanyl wrapped with fish, according to cops.
Santos-Martinez, 35, was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court last Friday, and his bail was set at $150,000 cash or $250,000 bond. He’s due back in court on Feb. 28.
The case is being prosecuted by the city’s Special Narcotics Prosecutor.
