Seattle-based pollock producer Glacier Fish Company is joining the Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative (GSSI) as a funding partner.
“Glacier Fish’s commitment to the sustainability and stewardship of our ocean’s natural resources is synonymous with GSSI’s global non-competitive effort working towards more sustainable seafood for everyone. This makes Glacier a strong addition to GSSI’s growing global partnership of seafood companies” said Herman Wisse, managing director, GSSI.
“In Alaska, we enjoy the most robust science-based fisheries management in the world and along with rigorous third-party review and certification, our fisheries provide a high level of confidence to our customers in making their buying choices,” said Glacier CEO Michael Breivik.
“With the growing confusion of seafood certification schemes, GSSI fills a unique role in providing a global benchmark based on measurable, consistent standards in a non-competitive environment. This allows our customers to feel confident that whichever certification scheme best meets their needs will comply with these rigorous requirements," he said.
GSSI’s Global Benchmark Tool is designed to provide clarity on, and transparency in, seafood certification by recognizing credible certification schemes, and identifying areas for improvement.
