Now that the calendar has passed Ash Wednesday, many people give up meat on Fridays. But you don’t have to be Catholic to appreciate a good piece of fish. Here are some local places to get some:
▪ Charlie’s Fresh Seafood Market, 926 Winchester Road, is the kind of place locals know for its fish sandwich special. It also sells fresh and frozen seafood. Call 859-255-6005 for more information.
▪ The Ketch Seafood Grill, 2012 Regency Road, is another place with a loyal local following with fish sandwiches, po’boys and much more. Call 859-277-5919 for more information.
▪ Lexington Seafood Co., 867 East High Street, is known for its fresh fish, shrimp and oysters but they will cook you a piece for lunch, too. Call 859-266-8888 to place an order.
▪ Smithtown Seafood, 501 West Sixth Street, is tucked right into the West Sixth Brewery, so you can pair your food with a West Sixth beer. Smithtown has burgers and vegetarian offerings on the menu, too. Call 859-303-4100 for more information. And now there is a Smithtown location in The Barn at The Summit at Fritz Farm. Call 859-309-0011 for more info there.
▪ Palmers Fresh Grill, 161 Lexington Green Circle, has a nice lakeside patio if it’s warm enough to sit outside. Call 859-273-0103 for more information.
▪ Clawdaddy’s, 128 North Broadway, is known for its lobster rolls but also has other Maine specialties such as soups. Call 859-258-2529 for more information.
▪ Grillfish, 265 North Limestone, isn’t open for lunch but if you’re looking for a splurge, this might be your place for dinner. Call 859-469-8673 for reservations.
▪ Tony’s of Lexington, 401 West Main Street, is another place to go for a big seafood splurge; definitely a date-night kind of place.
▪ Dudley’s on Short, 259 West Short Street, will offer Friday fish specials for both lunch and dinner throughout Lent. Chef Mark Richardson will kick things off with his take on classic fish & chips on the 16th.
▪ Bonefish Grill, 2341 Sir Barton Way. Yes, it’s a chain, but it’s a hugely popular one, with lots of choices. Call 859-233-3474 to make reservations; open for dinner.
