What a magic weekend it was last weekend and it was fantastic to see people heading out fishing, whether it was in the fresh or salt water.
We have heard that there are great numbers of flathead and gummy shark along the North-West Coast at the moment.
Conditions were ideal for gummy shark on the weekend with nearly no wind.
It makes for great fishing with some burley and no anchoring required.
Jig-em rigs have been the stand-out and along with fishing soft plastics with a big jig head, bouncing your plastic along the bottom will usually get a result.
Blackback salmon are starting to move along the coast with some schools appearing down in the far north west area, so if your heading out bottom fishing, keep an eye out for a school of salmon.
There have also been some big calamari caught along the Coast, not massive numbers yet but nice big fish.
Good news is they should only get more prevalent as time goes on.
Tuna are still about down the East Coast with a few caught at Eaglehawk Neck last weekend; redbait skirts are working very well, so don’t give up on them just yet.
Trout fishing up in the highlands has been going very well and soft plasticing from the shore of the Great Lake has been a great success for people using this method.
Woods and Arthurs lakes have also been fishing well, and our local rivers too are proving bountiful.
One of our staff ventured out to the Leven and Mersey rivers over the weekend with great success, landing around 40 fish.
All were released to fight again another day.
